DART NEWS

4/13 Update on the North American Open/US Open TV coverage....an email response from the PDC states it'll be on FOX Sports from the semi-finals on...tape delayed.  Also found this announcement on "Versus"  link.  This is the PDC email response:
 Thanks for your email.

Fox Sports, rather than ESPN, will be involved in the North American
Darts Championship, screening delayed coverage of the semi-finals and
final.

I will check on the Mohegan Sun rates and come back to you.

Regards,

David Allen

3/23 Phil Taylor 9 dart 501on Thursday (during warmups) here. Followed it up with a match average of 104... (end of clip).  Amazing, but he hit a conventional 9 darter on Sunday (along with Colin Lloyd and Dave Askew) during the PartyPoker.net Players Championship in Germany.  He also just happened to win both of those events....he's definitely "on form" lately!  read about it here   Steve Brown has a good story about him (Phil) hitting several 9 darters during match warm up's....what I wouldn't give just to hit ONE...lol.

3/16/08 - Free, full-length dart matches.  here  Full length matches of BDO tournaments (not PDC) but still some good quality ones.  Click on "archives" at the top and will bring up some past footage.  I HIGHLY recommend watching the Gary Anderson/Mark Webster final at the Zuiderduin Masters final....they both averaged over 100 points per round.  Both are top-echelon shooters, top 10 even if they threw in the PDC.  Some nights their site has a slow download speed....so may have to pause a bunch or put up with the constant buffering.

3/12/08 - Yikes, looks like I am slackin' lol.  Got news from a friend, says the latest issue of Bullseye News had some updates about the North American Darts Championship in CT, May 16-18....appears ESPN is gonna broadcast the tournament live..........WOOOHOOOO. This is a good sign for American darts to be sure.  Nothing on their website yet.  I'll keep my ear to the ground.

2/1/08 - After a 44 match, unbeaten streak (spanning 3 years)....Phil Taylor loses in Premier League play more here.....  What I thought unique was after 18 years and 13 World Titles....he changed his darts...drastically.  If you poke around the Unicorn dart site you'll see something called "Project Sigma"....basically they hired a genuine rocket scientist to design a dart with maximum momentum but attempting to eliminate "wobble" all by controlling the "center of mass".  They cover it in detail...but it's way over my head.  They sent samples out to several SEWA members (wish I had volunteered) for testing...and for their participation, gave them a free set.  Early reports are that everyone loves them....and they're obviously good enough for a 13 time World Champ too.  Read more about them here
when there...you can click on the blog for "uniboffin" at the top of the page...and he goes step by step through the science and design process....see how long it takes for you to get lost :)

1/27/2008 - Darin Young and Paula Murphy win the National Cricket Championship in vegas. more here

1/25/08  The PDC added a new tournament to the US Open....calling it the North American Darts Championship.  It's only open to players from the USA and Canada and will run in conjunction with the US Open....including televised semi-finals and finals.  It appears a player will be able to enter both events and the payout looks amazing....$15,000 for first place, $5000 for 2nd...etc.  When I compare that to a typical $35,000 steel tourney such as Virgina Beach....1st place in one event there pays only $2000.....so landmark money for a US tourney.  The tournament will take place from 5/16-5/18 at the Mohegan Sun Casino near Groton, CT.  This event used to be called "the World Series of Darts" and has since changed to the "US Open" after ESPN dropped out and FOX/Versus moved in.  MORE HERE
